The DPA pre Emmys gift suite at The Luxe Hotel

 By Emmanuel ITIER

Nathalie Dubois, founder of DPA (https://dpagroup.org ) has done it again with a fantastic pre Emmys gift suite lounge based at The Luxe Hotel (https://dpagroup.org ). As in the Ali Baba’s cave straight from the Arabian night, there are treasures to be encountered in this year’s gift suite. I was welcomed by publicist Louisa Sharamatyan who is working with Nathalie Dubois and to help the many invited nominees to navigate the two large suites full of wonders. And so, we met actors, Jimmy Jean Louis, Radha Mitchell, Mychal Bella and Blanca Blanco as well as writer Justin Tan. But many more came after our short visit. Nathalie’s gift suite is the must stop for all journalists covering the Emmys as well as for all nominees. She is in business for over 20 years, and she is also known for our legendary gift suites for the Oscars, the Golden Globes as well as the French Césars.

They meet Eve, a young woman desperate to get out of town and find Landon Mooney. "Emilia Pérez" and "The Count of Monte Cristo" to Open and Close The American French Film Festival in LA

Sweeping Cinematic Tour-de-Force The Count Of Monte Cristo to Screen Closing Night of the Festival

The American French Film Festival (TAFFF) will bookend it’s 28th annual edition with two of France’s most-talked-about films this awards season: Emilia Pérez, the Opening Night film, and The Count of Monte Cristo, which will wrap up the six-day event that runs October 29 to November 3 at the Director’s Guild of America Theatre Complex. The announcement was made today by The Franco-American Cultural Fund (FACF), the originator of The American French Film Festival.

Jacques Audiard’s Emilia Pérez, a genre defying musical drama about love and redemption, will be celebrated at The American French Film Festival with a gala, red-carpet Opening Night screening on October 29, presented in association with Netflix. Written and directed by Jacques Audiard, the film was the toast of this year’s Cannes Film Festival, earning the four actresses - Karla Sofía Gascón, Zoe Saldaña, Selena Gomez, and Adriana Paz - a collective “Best Actress” award. The film will be rerun on October 30 at the Festival.

The period drama The Count of Monte Cristo, France’s most-expensive film of 2024, will be the Closing Night film, November 3. Written and directed by Matthieu Delaporte and Alexandre de La Patellière, the film had its world premiere as part of the Official Selection of the 2024 Cannes Film Festival.

Both films will compete for the 2024 TAFFF Awards, which will be awarded during a ceremony held in Paris on November 8.

Robert Zemeckis's HERE to Close 60th Chicago Int'l Film Festival

Legendary Director To Receive Founder’s Legacy Award October 27, 2024

The Chicago International Film Festival announced today that legendary director Robert Zemeckis’s HERE will close the 60th edition of North America’s longest-running competitive film festival, with the director set to receive the Founder’s Legacy Award, presented by Chicago International Film Festival founder Michael Kutza, at the Closing Night presentation on Sunday, October 27, 2024 at the Music Box Theatre. Miramax’s HERE is set for theatrical release via TriStar Pictures on November 1, 2024.

Reuniting the director, writer, and stars of FORREST GUMP, HERE is an original film about multiple families and a special place they inhabit. The story travels through generations, capturing the most relatable of human experiences. Robert Zemeckis (FORREST GUMP, CASTAWAY, WHO FRAMED ROGER RABBIT, CONTACT, BACK TO THE FUTURE) directs from a screenplay by Eric Roth (FORREST GUMP, KILLERS OF THE FLOWER MOON, DUNE, A STAR IS BORN) and him. Told much in the style of the acclaimed graphic novel by Richard McGuire on which it is based, Tom Hanks and Robin Wright star in a tale of love, loss, laughter, and life, all of which happen right HERE. The film also stars Paul Bettany, Kelly Reilly, and Michelle Dockery, and is produced by Zemeckis, Derek Hogue, Jack Rapke, and Bill Block.

Beyond the despair and the tears, Anastasiia manages to bring a strong light of hope to this world and the beauty she captures in each eye and smiles, mixed with the rawness of the volcanic islandic eruption, will wake up your inner flame for survival and make you want to send blessings to the 6 million beautiful Ukrainian souls in complete limbo around the World. ‘Temporary shelter’ is a wake-up call for our “leaders” to fix this chaos and give back their lives to all the Ukrainian refugees. We stand by you, Ukraine! We want to see you head home permanently. Freedom and Peace are coming.

From September 27 to October 2, 2024, audiences will be able to enjoy this event at iconic venues in Marrakech such as the Palais Badi, the Palais Bahia, Arsat Moulay Abdeslam Garden and the Museum of Ornament Arts (LE MAP). Under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, the festival returns to showcase excellence in short films, with a diverse program that highlights emerging talents as well as renowned figures from international cinema.

A Festival at the Intersection of Cultures

The 2024 edition of the MARRAKECHsFF will feature exceptional collaborations, notably with the “Marrakech, Capital of Islamic Culture” program and the "Qatar x Morocco Year of Culture 2024." These partnerships will strengthen the festival's role as a cultural crossroads, spotlighting films that explore themes of identity, diversity, and intercultural exchange.

A Prestigious Jury

The festival will welcome a distinguished jury, chaired by Moroccan filmmaker, actress, and producer Mayssa Maghrebi, alongside Sofia Alaoui and Nadia Kounda. These cinema experts will bring their keen insights to evaluate the works in competition, ensuring a selection of high-quality films.

Program Highlights

The 9th Beyond Borders Festival concluded successfully and announces its awards

The 9th Beyond Borders Kastellorizo International Documentary Festival concluded with a grand and enthusiastic celebration on Sunday, September 1st. The festival featured 36 Greek, international, and world premieres in its competition sections and 8 additional premieres in the Panorama section. It gathered distinguished guests from the film industry, loyal and new friends, visitors, volunteers, students, and the children of the island—every driving human force. The week was filled with captivating images, compelling stories, unseen aspects of the human condition, and tender yet harsh glimpses of everyday life from around the world. A festival like Beyond Borders allows different, even conflicting, worlds to coexist, converse, and reconcile through the films and their creators.
