The national competition brings together emerging directors from new Quebec and Canadian cinema. It's a cinema that reflects us, valuing both diversity and contrasts in style. With nine works in selection, the Competition travels with filmmakers from British Columbia to Nova Scotia, by way of Alberta, Ontario and Quebec. |

2024 marks the 20th anniversary of the Temps Ø section at the FNC. For 20 years, audiences have been raving about this transgressive programming section, which offers thrills and unprecedented experiences that leave no one indifferent. At this 53rd edition, fans of Temps Ø will be able to discover no fewer than 19 works from the four corners of the globe. |

OPENING AND CLOSING CEREMONIES |

The festival opens with the singular work UNE LANGUE UNIVERSELLE by filmmaker Matthew Rankin. Representing Canada in the race for the Oscar for Best International Film, UNE LANGUE UNIVERSELLE arrives in Montreal with several international awards under its belt. |

After its world premiere at Cannes, director Alain Guiraudie's latest film, MISÉRICORDE, starring Félix Kysyl and Catherine Frot as a young baker and the widow of his former boss respectively, will close the 53rd edition of the festival on October 19. |

Weekends are filled with discoveries and festivities for the youngest cinephiles at the FNC. This year, the festival presents two blocks of shorts for the very young, as well as the animated feature FLOW by Gints Zilbalodis, winner of the Jury Prize at the Annecy Animation Festival and selected for Cannes 2024, and a remastered version of Yves Robert's classic BÉBERT ET L'OMNIBUS.
The Grande Kermesse des P'tits Loups also returns to the Agora on Sunday, October 13, to welcome families and offer them a full morning and afternoon of cinema and activities. |

Incest: confronting silence and denial In her entire body of work, novelist Christine Angot recounts the incest she suffered, and the devastating effect this crime had on her life and those around her. In her first film, she brings the protagonists of her story face-to-face with the camera. Peace film evening The Film for Peace evening will begin with a screening of the documentary DISCO'S REVENGE, which traces the epic history of disco, the music that vibrated to the rhythm of the struggles for civil rights and the rights of LGBTQ+ people. Every evening for the duration of the festival, festival-goers are invited to gather and celebrate alongside guest filmmakers at the Festival Headquarters in the Agora at UQÀM's Heart of Science. The programming offered is entirely free and closely linked to this year's selection of films and major themes. DJ sets, musical shows, bingo night... including Pornographie Exclusive, live karaoke with TonJules, La Sécurité, Lady Guidoune, members of Club Sagacité and the Moonshine collective. |
