Introducing The Louies: a new fund for South Florida documentaries
The Louies: New Fund for South Florida Documentaries Sponsored by the Lynn & Louis Wolfson II Family Foundation
The Miami Film Festival is proud to offer a new funding source to bring local films to life: Introducing The Louies, which will provide six Miami-based filmmakers with a share of $100,000 in funding to create documentaries about South Florida.
As Miami filmmakers know, our city is rich in stories waiting to be told. The Louies will ensure that more documentaries that capture our city are created. Plus, each winning entry will be screened by the festival, ensuring a wider platform for these films.
Many thanks to our presenting sponsors the Lynn & Louis Wolfson II Family Foundation, founded by the pioneering family that launched Miami’s first TV station, WTVJ. The foundation also created the Florida Moving Image Archives at Miami Dade College, which includes 35,000 hours of South Florida history from 1900 to today. Selected filmmakers will be able to use the archive at no cost.
