To be eligible for entry in the 2022 World Trailer Awards (Awards), the Work being submitted must have been made available to the intended audience in the Region and Market selected for the Entry between 1 January 2020 and 31 October 2021 inclusive.

The WTA is a global initiative from the revered Golden Trailer Awards, an awards competition that recently marked its 21st year celebrating the entertainment industry's best movie trailers, teasers, posters, and innovative advertising; in association with AcclaimWorks, a globally recognised leader in awards management services.

Le festival Cinéma d'Itinérances dévoile son affiche 2022 et le parrain de sa 40e édition : Tony Gatlif

Tony Gatlif sera le parrain de la 40e édition du Festival Cinéma d'Alès - Itinérances, qui se déroulera du 25 mars au 3 avril 2022.

Une photo de sa collection personnelle, sur laquelle il apparaît, a été choisie pour figurer sur l'affiche de la manifestation.

Le réalisateur, compagnon de longue date d'Itinérances, se verra remettre à Alès le "prix de la 40e édition", spécialement créé.



Une grande partie de sa filmographie, couvrant plus de quatre décennies, sera proposée au public (et plus particulièrement aux lycéens et étudiants en cinéma), Tony Gatlif donnera une masterclass et aura carte blanche pour présenter des films et inviter des personnalités du cinéma qui lui sont proches. Cet hommage permettra également à Itinérances de mettre en valeur son travail peu connu de dessinateur et, bien évidemment, d'explorer son univers musical, avec un concert exceptionnel co-produit avec la scène nationale d'Alès, Le Cratère.

Tony Gatlif


Auteur d’une œuvre emblématique autour de la thématique Itinérances, le réalisateur gitan andalou (né dans la périphérie d’Alger), commence par être acteur de théâtre au tout début des années 70. Le besoin de cinéma arrive assez vite. Avec un scénario tout d’abord (La Rage au poing, 1973), puis une première réalisation, en 16 mm en 1975, La Tête en ruines. Il aborde ensuite dans ses films des thèmes qui lui sont chers : l’Algérie et l’exil (La Terre au ventre, 1978), les gitans de Séville et de Grenade (Corre Gitano, 1982), la sédentarisation des gitans (Les Princes, 1982). On voit alors naître un cinéaste atypique, engagé, poétique. Musical aussi avec le magnifique et enivrant Latcho Drom en 1993 où il nous transporte dans l’histoire de la grande migration tsigane, du Rajasthan à l’Espagne et qui remporte le prix Un Certain Regard au Festival de Cannes. Il recevra d'ailleurs deux César de la Meilleure musique pour Gadjo Dilo en 1999 et Vengo en 2001.


Il adapte en 1994 un roman de Jean-Marie Le Clézio (Mondo), réalise ensuite le très remarqué Gadjo Dilo (1997) avec Romain Duris parti à la recherche d'une chanteuse inconnue en Roumanie, qu’il retrouvera pour Je suis né d’une cigogne l’année suivante accompagné de Rona Hartner.


Toujours avec Romain Duris, Tony Gatlif retourne sur la terre de son enfance, l’Algérie, pour Exils qui remportera le prix de la mise en scène à Cannes en 2004. Festival de Cannes dont il fera la clôture en 2006 avec Transylvania. Il faudra attendre quatre ans pour un nouveau film : Liberté, qui offre à Marc Lavoine le rôle d’un «Juste» qui s’évertue à protéger un groupe de tziganes durant la Seconde Guerre Mondiale. Il laisse à nouveau de côté le monde des gitans le temps d’un film : Indignados en 2012, un témoignage fictionné d’une Europe révoltée. Dans Geronimo, il retrouve cet univers et fait essentiellement appel à des acteurs non expérimentés. Ensuite viendra Djam, en 2017, film sur l’exil, une errance à la frontière de la Turquie et de la Grèce. Enfin, en 2021 Tom Medina suit un jeune délinquant (dont le parcours ressemble à celui du cinéaste dans ses jeunes années) cherchant à se réinsérer dans une Camargue sauvage et mystique.



Parti de rien, autodidacte, Tony Gatlif construit, film après film, la mémoire du peuple auquel il appartient, même s’il reste étranger à l’idée d’un rattachement exclusif à une communauté et qu’il se définit lui-même comme un « méditerranéen ». Il est ce cinéaste magicien dont les films détiennent un secret inexplicable qui touche au cœur et au corps.

Fun Jury Duty at Beyond Borders - Kastelorizzo doc fest

Klaus Eder (JURY PRESIDENT) was born in Augsburg, Germany in 1939. He studied German literature at Stuttgart University. He worked as a film critic from the mid 1960s, for the national radio (“Bayerischer Rundfunk”) and for several film magazines. He is the writer of many publications including books on Andrzej Wajda, Luis Bunuel, Nikita Mikhalkov and Andrei Konchalovski, Arturo Ripstein, Im Kwon-taek, and Nagisa Oshima. From 1986 to 2007 he was the programmer of the Munich International Film Festival. He has been an advisor for a variety of festivals. From 1987 he is the General Secretary of the International Federation of Film Critics (FIPRESCI). Onwards he lives and works in Munich, Germany.

 

Marianna Economou is a documentary film maker based in Athens, Greece. She studied anthropology, photojournalism and film production in London. She directs documentary series for the Greek TV and creative documentaries produced by Greeks and co-produced by European broadcasters such as the BBC, ARTE and YLE. Her films have participated in many international festivals. She has received awards for the following documentaries: “The School”, “My Place in the Dance”, “Please Listen to Me”, “Bells”, “Threads And Miracles”, “Twelve Neighbours”, “Food for Love” and “The Longest Run”, which was also nominated for the European Film Academy Awards in 2016. Her latest documentary, “When tomatoes met Wagner”, premiered in Berlinale and has been officially selected by more than 80 festivals worldwide (Visions du Reel, Sydney, DocBarcelona, Docaviv, Sarajevo, etc). Moreover, it was Greece’s selection for the Oscars 2020 in the foreign film category. She is a member of the European Film Academy and president of the Greek Documentary Association.

Jean-Christoph Caron is the head of the PHOENIX Documentary Department, a German public TV channel. Several of his films were nominated for national and international film awards, such as The Great Crash of Lehman Brothers (German Award for Business Journalism 2010), Death Flight Pan AM 103 (Prix Europa 2014), The Oppenheimer Files (Hesse Film Award 2018), and the Secret Life of James Bond which received a special screening movie premiere at the Filmfestival of Cologne 2020. His latest creative work focuses on serialized documentary formats including The Body Language of the Powerful (phoenix 2017- 2019) and What If…? a doc series on alternative history (phoenix 2017-2020). Jean-Christoph especially loves docs that provide lessons from history and science or deeper analyses of the world of politics. Currently he is working on a documentary on the Cretan resistance and on German war crimes in Crete.

Maro Anastopoulou is a film director based in Athens. She directs featurelength documentaries and episodes for documentary series on behalf of ERT and Vouli Channel. She works as a director at events and conferences while she has taught screenwriting and directing in public and private schools in Athens. Photographs and articles of hers have been published in Greek press. She was awarded an International Federation of Film Critics (FIPRESCI) prize at the 18th International Documentary Film Festival in Thessaloniki. She has won the Best Director and Best Feature Film Awards at the 5th International Documentary Festival of Ierapetra/Crete and also received the PRIX GRECDOC D’ OR at (GrecDoc), Paris - Edition 2020 for her first full-length documentary, Whispers of the Sky. She recently completed her second featurelength documentary “1,000 square meters of time” and is currently preparing a series of documentaries on Athens.



Bruno Chatelin is a graduate of HEC French Business School. His career began in the marketing field with the largest international advertising agencies such as Publicis, DMM Masius and JWT. Later on he became a distributor for Sony, 20th Century Fox and several other major international companies. He has launched over 200 films and has worked closely with the most amazing talents. He is cofounder of filmfestivals.com in 2000, an international web portal for the film fest circuit, running a database of 200.000 professional film subscribers. He runs a boutique marketing consultancy Major Buz Factory and also serves as Festival Agent, curating a lineup of Best For Fests which helps with marketing guidance navigating the festival circuit. Bruno is a voting member of Cesar, the European Film Awards and he regularly serves as jury member in many international festivals.

What is Man? HOMO shows six faces, six phases in cleverly-connected, blackly comic episodes as desperate characters meet unwittingly in a modern metropole in the eternal search for the means to survive, and find some kind of love.

This timely and urgent new public affairs documentary examines the U.S. electoral college system. The film avoids any partisan bickering to ask the questions: How does it work?
