Submit to the Ermanno Olmi Award

Ermanno Olmi Award
6th Edition
International Award for the Best Short Film under 30

Deadline / October, 13th 2024

An international award for Best Short Film, dedicated to the late director Ermanno Olmi, to support and promote the works of young filmmakers.

The award is addressed to filmmakers of all nationalities and not older than 30 on the date of the open call deadline and consists of 3 cash prizes (€ 1,200, € 600, and € 400) - made available by Bergamo Film Meeting Onlus - and a special mention awarded on a theme chosen by the municipal administration. The winner of the mention will be awarded a cash prize worth € 300 offered by FIC – Federazione Italiana Cineforum.
For this year, the Culture Department has chosen as its theme “The exercise of peace”. This is practiced in daily attitudes, in openness to encounter, compassion and doubt. It is a way of looking at the world around us, seeing in others existences to be respected, with which to share life paths. Ermanno Olmi’s cinema reveals a gaze made of humanity, care and respect, which does not hide suffering and does not deny the difficulty of solidarity action, nor the loneliness of revolt. The mention winner will be awarded a cash prize worth € 300 offered by FIC – Federazione Italiana Cineforum.

The maximum length of each submission (fiction, documentary or animation) must not exceed 15 minutes. All entries must have been produced in 2023 or 2024. Each filmmaker can submit a single entry. The deadline for submissions is October 13, 2024.

The winners’ announcement and award ceremony will be held on December 3rd, 2024, at the Sala dell'Orologio in Piazza della Libertà, Bergamo, or another suitable venue.

The Ermanno Olmi Award is promoted by the City of Bergamo with the support of Bergamo Film Meeting Onlus and in collaboration with FIC - Federazione Italiana Cineforum.

In accord with the Minimum Environmental Criteria - parameters of environmental sustainability for cultural events - signed by the Municipality of Bergamo, the Prize takes part in the European Green Fest project: a commitment to both environment and culture, and a fitting tribute to Ermanno Olmi, who, through his works, was always a keen supporter of environmental preservation.
