LAKEVIEW (2024) will have its World Premiere at AIFF '24.

The Atlantic International Film Festival (AIFF) proudly announces three World Premieres for the 2024 festival, running September 11-18. In anticipation of the official full program announcement next month, the programming team is excited to announce Atlantic Canadian-made feature length films, MONICA’S NEWS, SKEET and LAKEVIEW.

“I’m thrilled to share this list of World Premieres, spotlighting work from the Atlantic provinces and showcasing the range of storytelling and talent of our filmmakers,” says Lisa Haller, Director of Programming, AIFF.

MONICA’S NEWS is a debut feature from filmmaker Pamela Gallant, who draws on childhood memories as a paper carrier in PEI to speak to the issues of today, crafting an empathetic portrait of the resilient women who fought for equality in her community. Seven years in the making, Nik Sexton’s SKEET tracks the unlikely friendship of an ex-con and a Syrian newcomer as they face their demons and seek a fresh start in Newfoundland. And LAKEVIEW is the sophomore feature from Halifax’s Tara Thorne. This film captures a girls’ weekend in all its tumultuous glory, as a group of exes reassess their relationships to one another in the wake of a divorce.

This year, AIFF will also present LIVE! SCRIPTS OUT LOUD!, a rip-roaring read-through of scenes from classic 90s rom coms. Scripts being read will include: WHEN HARRY MET SALLY, YOU’VE GOT MAIL, MY BEST FRIEND’S WEDDING, SLEEPLESS IN SEATTLE and THE BIRDCAGE and will feature an all-star cast of comedy luminaries, including Heidi Brander (BARONESS VON SKETCH SHOW) fame; rising star Katelyn McCulloch (MEET THE KILLER PARENTS, BYSTANDERS); local comedy legend Bob Mann (SULLIVAN’S CROSSING, THE SECRET GIFT OF CHRISTMAS); and Eugene Sampang (THE TRADES, SON OF A CRITCH). The event will take place on Saturday, September 14 at 3:30 p.m.
In addition, AIFF, in partnership with the Halifax Central Library, will be offering a variety of FREE festival programming, including panels such as “Representation in Genre”, and “Creating Sustainable Productions in Today’s Screen Industries”, an “Artist to Artist” Conversation with Andrea Dorfman and Pamela Gallant, hosted by Stephanie Joline, a special information session “CBC, Create With Us!”; and several “Family Film Fun!” activities for children.
