Review of Legoland and the Lego Castle hotel – Summer 2024 by Emmanuel ITIER
“Everything is awesome!” such is the well-deserved mantra one shall award to Legoland and the Lego Castle hotel located in Carlsbad, California
To make your experience the best possible, at Legoland, may I suggest you get a day prior to your park visit and check yourself for one night at the Castle Lego hotel. Each room is super large and lodges up to 3 kids and 2 adults. The theme room we chose was “knights and dragons” and our boys had a blast. This new hotel also has a large pool and a jacuzzi. Pre-buy an early check in and enjoy the hotel from 1:00pm on. And of course, it includes the lavish breakfast buffet for the whole family as well as an early admittance into the park, one hour before everyone else.
The first land to check at Legoland is the new Dino valley. The Lego team of hardworking engineers have been working on this endeavor for over two years. And it was worth it as our kids loved this dinosaur’s world. They were first in line to get a ride on the Duplo little dino trail and they enjoyed taking pictures of all the animals met on this journey. Then we went onto the Explorer River quest. This was the old “storybook” river cruise that is now totally redone with loads of dino surprises; a complete enchantment. And of course, we had to finish with the classic ‘Coastersaurus’ roller-coaster which pumps up your adrenaline like never before. One thing that differs from other park is the time you spend in lines. The most we have spent was, maybe 30 minutes, as the boys love rollercoasters and the other masterpiece to ride is the Lego technic coaster; you might want to experience it before lunch! Usually, you can wait up to 2 hours at some other parks; therefore, Legoland is unique in its genre, and you can have a real family quality time.
Talking of lunch, Legoland has plenty of meals choices for you. For some reason we love the ‘Knights’ smokehouse BBQ’ restaurant with its large outside seating area. We indulge every time with a mix of puller pork, BBQ chicken and pork ribs. A true feast for true knights of the round table, ha-ha!
In between rides, you have to check out the miniature lands with many landmarks such as New York, Vegas or L.A. It’s a fun mini escapade in Lego bricks; quite a tour de force indeed.
Usually, we spend the first part of the day going from one ride to another, from ‘Emmet’s flying adventure ride’ and its triple decker flying couch to ‘Ninjago the ride’ using all the elements to fight your enemies onto ‘Lost kingdom adventure’ where you will battle armies of mummies. And then, by 3:00pm, we are ready to get wet and jump into the water park. After all it is summertime and there is nothing like a good swim into the ‘Lion temple wave pool’ or a good splash riding the ‘Orange rush’ as a family or a single tube
Splash out’ experience. The water park is truly a world of its own and this is where you end up losing totally the sense of time. The day is gone before your know it.
At the end, we leave Legoland with so many memories. The vivid one is being a family and how much this means to each of us. It is like if the world of brick is the cement that solidifies our eternal bond, no matter the ups and downs of life. Legoland has been a very special destination for the last 15 years when we bought a young Felix who was only 3 years old. Over the years our love for Legoland has increased and we hope you will join us soon.
So, get online and book your Lego vacation right now.
Big thank you to the PR Legoland California team: Christina Fillippis, Julie Estrada and Megan Mathews.
And a special “Thank You!” for front desk magicians at the Castle hotel, Zachary and Dejan, who kindly got us into our room even, so the Merlin computer system was shut down. Much appreciated.
